Waxploitation to launch all-star auction for Sudan relief;
Items from System of a Down, Dixie Chicks, Patti Smith and more
In its ongoing efforts to raise money for the victims of genocide in Sudan, Waxploitation Records is setting up an all-star online auction via eBay in late starting Monday, January 17th. All of the proceeds will be donated to two major non-profits working directly in Sudan (note: we cannot name them directly in this press release because it poses a risk to their relief workers in the field).
The URL for the auction is www.ebay.com/sudanrelief
A ‘who’s who’ of artists have donated signed or rare items System of a Down, Dixie Chicks, Wilco, Beastie Boys, Korn, Yoko Ono, Jurassic 5, Limp Bizkit, The Donnas, David Sylvian, 311, Patti Smith, Skinny Puppy, Good Charlotte, Dizzee Rascal, Danger Mouse, Tiger Army, Guided By Voices, Tom Morello, S.T.U.N., Matchbook Romance, Lil Romeo, Ani DiFranco, The Stills, Tweaker, The Cardigans, Rob Zombie, Will Oldham, Mark Farina, Teargas & Plateglass, Puddle of Mudd, Dropkick Murphys, Brand New, Ministry, Dandy Warhols, Fischerspooner, Ozomatli, Ziggy Marley amongst several hundred items. Several apparel companies are participating including Dragon Optical, Ocean Pacific, Forum, Five Four, Savren, Four Star and Ropeadope. 2 rare copies of Doom III signed by the production team will be auctioned as well.
According to the UN, the conflict in Sudan has created one of the world's worst humanitarian crises, with more than one million people driven from their homes and up to 70,000 people killed by government supported militias (CNN 8/31/04). The systematic rape of women and the murder of children have been widely reported.
“People urgently need to be aware that an ethnic cleansing is taking place, affecting more than a million completely innocent people.” Says Waxploitation founder Jeff Antebi. “It’s tough for us to put this auction on at the same time the world is generously assisting Tsunami victims in Asia, but I am hopeful that people are willing to support two terrible humanitarian crises at the same time. One is a natural disaster and the other is a criminal act of mass murder perpetrated by a nation on its innocent minority citizens.”
Waxploitation Records also recently released its Genocide in Sudan CD which includes songs donated by artists including System of a Down, Jill Scott, Gorillaz, Yoko Ono and Jurassic 5 amongst many others. For more info, please check out www.waxploitation.com/genocide
